Drop In Repair & Remanufacturing
Drop in
The answer to replacing devices from disappeared brands
The Drop In concept
The most robust industrial machines are designed for maximum durability. However, these devices still require expertise, overhaul or identical replacement of the device in certain situations.
Faced with the disappearance of certain brands of speed reducers, companies are looking for replacement solutions available the day their device is no longer operational.
Brands like BAACKE GETRIED, COMELOR, WECO et HUGOT SURETEX LIFTING CUT illustrate this challenge, as their equipment, although widespread, is no longer available from the original manufacturer.
In this context, the Drop In concept provides a response to these challenges: this process makes it possible to replace these reducers with models identical to the equipment already in place.
This approach offers several advantages, including avoiding major changes to the company's production line and minimal downtime.
Businesses can ensure continuity in their operations by being very vigilant about these old devices.
At MERGER, we guarantee a smooth and efficient transition of your device. We adapt to your industry and its specific needs.
Classic or very specific reducer: our expertise and historical know-how allow us to support our customers in the identical remanufacturing of their device.

Disappearing brands: examples of applications
As part of its projects, MERGER has been able to meet the challenge of maintaining in service production lines equipped with reducers from disappeared brands.
Here are several examples of applications in different sectors, each presenting unique problems and requiring adapted solutions.
PUILLES Brothers Reducer: Special 23286A
A company in the steel industry uses a brand-new reducer in its production line. Given the year of manufacture of the device, 1976, the company decided to request the refurbishment of the reducer to ensure the reliability of its production line.
The French brand POUILLE Frères produced industrial equipment that was widespread in Europe. It ceased operations in the 80s due to international competition and the technical industrial changes of the time. POUILLE Frères reducers were known for their longevity and robust design, mainly in the steel industry.
Thus, MERGER proposed a new Drop In device to respect the dimensions of the previous reducer, made to measure. We installed this new device in August, during the annual production shutdown, in order to limit the impact on the company's activity.
Unfortunately, the company did not have any documentation or plans available. Consequently, MERGER took measurements on site in order to recreate the configuration of the reducer while adding improvements. The new MERGER reducer had to be assembled identically to the POUILLE Frères reducer.
WECO Reducer: H2TF280SP
Our client company is a major player in the maritime and port sector. Their company has been using a WECO brand device for many years.
The WECO brand, of French origin, comes from the WECO company (Weinbrenner et Compagnie). Located in Thann in Alsace, the company was bought by DAVID BROWN France in 1996. It was known for its robust and durable reducers, present in different types of industry. Specializing in rubber equipment (customer MICHELIN, PIRELLI), it ended up being placed in receivership. Companies with this type of reducer are looking for reducer manufacturers who can find alternative solutions to this brand.
In this context, the customer was faced with a non-compliant vibration signal within the casing and was obliged to stop production in order to have its device overhauled. It therefore called on MERGER urgently for the complete overhaul and refurbishment of its device.
After receiving all the plans and practical information by email, MERGER was able to prepare the replacement parts for the reducer before its arrival. It then carried out its refurbishment in a record time of 5 days.

After validation of the budget, we establish a detailed plan. This plan is validated by you with the support of MERGER engineers.
Conception
After finalization and validation of the plan with the customer, we begin manufacturing the identical reducer.
The main objective of our teams is to allow you an easy installation without any modification.
Equipment installation
If you wish, we can deliver and install the device at your home to provide support until it is up and running.
*You can thus position the investment with your management. We can also, during a periodic review of your device, carry out a complete measurement of the dimensions.
ACMI reducer: n°52 497
A long-standing MERGER partner in the lifting sector contacted us for a price request concerning one of its customers, equipped with an ACMI brand reducer.
The ACMI brand, of European origin, supplied many reducers in the 20th century, for various applications (metallurgy, steel industry or even chemistry). ACMI devices were recognized for their robustness in demanding industrial conditions with a power adapted to the application.
Our client contacted us at the end of 2023 to obtain a quote for a complete change of its ACMI reducer, type A 10 000 H2 n°52 497. After studying several proposals, the client chose to entrust this project to the company MERGER for its tailor-made technical approach, French manufacturing and its competitive price.
The MERGER design office developed a custom plan – based on its UNIVERSEL range, with the NORPA 500-3 – to match the dimensions and characteristics of the original device. As a result, photos, nameplate and all documentation relating to the device were carefully analyzed.
The MERGER team also visited the site to establish and then verify all the dimensions with the client.
Manufacturing and delivery were carried out during 2024.
Citroën Messian reducer: 2PL160
A player in the chemical sector consulted us for the replacement of two reducers in its factory. Among these, one came from the Citroën Messian brand, a historic brand of speed reducers.
The Citröen Messian brand, born from a merger between the Citröen gear company and the Messian reducer company in 1962, was a successful manufacturer of reducers and transmission systems. It subsequently expanded across Europe before merging with other players in the sector in 1977 to strengthen its market position, under the name CMD.
Our customer contacted us in mid-2020 to replace their 2PL160 model. This reducer was intended for the plant's SCM and SPC furnace. It had to be ready for the customer's annual production shutdown to avoid any disruption during the installation of the new unit. Despite the difficulties encountered, including material supply issues, we managed to meet the required deadlines.
